The Tree Radar Unit (TRU radar imaging system) creates a high-resolution, non-invasive image of the rooting patterns of trees and can identify soil volumes with both a high and low proportion of root presence, which is very much like an MRI scan. This image is created from data that uses Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) technology and allows an assessment of the trees roots without the need for excavation and can even work through hard surfaces such as concrete.
